SABELLA D03 – France

An experimental tidal turbine tested in operating conditions

In 2008, D03 was tested during one year in the Odet estuary in Brittany in France, and enabled SABELLA to set the basis of its technology and ensure its relevance.

Named in reference to its 3-meter diameter rotor, D03 is a tidal turbine of 7 tons for a rated power of 30 kW. It was immersed by 25-meter water depths, resting on the seabed and maintained in position using a gravity-based foundation.

Rewarded in 2005 by the competitive cluster “Pole Mer Bretagne Atlantique” within the framework of the Marénergie project, the concept received public funding and was supported by ADEME (French Agency for Environment and Energy Management) and territorial public stakeholders.
